What the checker looks at

  • Readable text

Real text, not a picture of text, that a system can pull out of the file.

  • Standard sections

Experience, education and skills under headings systems expect.

  • Contact details

An email address and phone number found in the text of the resume.

  • Dates

One consistent date style, so your timeline reads correctly.

  • Bullet points and numbers

Short lines for each achievement, with real figures where you have them.

  • Symbols and icons

Icon characters that often turn into boxes or vanish when a file is read.

  • Length

Pages and word count against what most roles expect.

  • Keywords

With a job posting added, which of its stressed terms your resume shows.

Common questions

What is an ATS?

An applicant tracking system is the software many employers use to collect, sort and search applications. It reads the text of your resume into fields, so a resume that is easy to read as plain text is easier to process.

Does the checker use AI?

No. The checks are fixed rules, so the same file always gets the same result. Nothing you add is sent to an AI service.

Is my resume stored?

No. We read your file to run the checks and drop it when the result is sent back. Create an account and import the resume if you want it saved.

Can it tell if my layout will work?

Not fully. It reads the text of the file, so it can’t see columns, tables or fonts. Keep the layout simple, with one column and standard headings, and check that you can select the text in your PDF.

Is a higher score a guarantee?

No. Every employer’s system is different, and nothing can promise an interview. The score shows how easy your file is to read and where it could trip a system up.
